The man behind the magic behind the RIFF
and bassist for prog metal masters
-MODERN MURDER

I started playing bass when i was 17, jamming with my brothers Jason & David in our parents garage. I took 1 lesson from my school mate session musician Michael Dolce who told me i didnt need lessons, that i had a natural feel for it, therefore i am self taught.

Together with my brothers we formed ‘Koke Addiction’ in 1998. My brother David left the band 2 years later, being replaced by Tony Ward on drums. Another year later Steve Macris took over the skins, and its him i credit for lifting my game. During this time Tony Ward & i were also playing in a rock band called ‘Black Feet’.
In 1989 fate entered my life when Matt Ellis (or Matt Murder as I know him -Snake) answered an add for a ‘guitarist wanted’. Having recently moved from Perth, he was a keen, eager, up for anything and one talented Mofo! Since that day he has been my best mate, working & playing & creating with him has been an absolute joy and way too easy. Together with my brother Jason, various drummers & Darren ‘Bluey Twinkles’ Abbott on keys we formed ‘Oxygen Mary’ which continued till 2005.
Paying our dues, we played anywhere & everywhere we could, and managed to release two ep’s, the 1st self titled, then ‘Looking for Mary J Warner’.

I was then asked to join hardcore group ‘Drive to Grace’ with Paul Barbara, Matt Oakes & Warrick Collier. During that time, Paul, Matt Ellis & i decided to work on another project which would become ‘Modern Murder’. Going for more of a progressive feel, we were creating some unbelievable tunes in my tiny little flat. We couldn’t believe what we were coming up with, the drums alone which were programmed on logic were so complicated & odd times, we questioned weather a human being could actually play it live!…cue in Rami Subhiyah…WOW…lucky for us he was totally into the music and absolutely more than capable of performing this massive fete. Extremely gifted, he also plays the clarinet, cello & piano just as well…SCORE!Paul decided to quit music, therefore forcing us to find a singer, we had Mark for a while, but we didn’t gel.

It took us a long time to find the right voice which would hold its own amongst the melodic prog songs created…enter the powerhouse that is ‘Carlos Raphael Anon’…Beautiful! Not only has the guy got the biggest vocal range, a massive heart & books full of wonderfully interesting lyrics, he plays guitar & synth! At last ‘Modern Murder’ is fully formed.

Machine Men Studio's

Machine Men Studio’s – “In the Beginning…”

In March 2009, we moved to a house with a garage in the back…hmmm, i had a dream…It took my father and I only 28 days to turn that garage into ‘Machine Men Studio’s. My first project was recording ‘Modern Murder”s’ album ‘No Cadence’. Its here for the 1st time I put on my producers cap and made sure i recorded the best, clearest, cleanest record i could, im proud to say I think I achieved that.

Along the way i’ve been lucky to record & produce some amazing talent, Ricky Bloomfield, The Bleed, Jordan Howe’s awesome Saint Lucifer”s ‘ New Messiah’, Virginia Lillye, Desicion Was His’, ‘Beware Of The Dog’, and honoured to have recorded, produced & mastered Johnathan Devoy’s debut ‘Mourning Sunshine’.
The past year has been ‘All about The Riff’ with Leif ‘Snake’ Sixx. What can i say? The studio has never been more exciting, and its always interesting…The volume of amazing talent that has graced my studio through this project has totally blown my mind. There are way too many to mention on my bio so refer to ‘Machine Men Studio’s’ for a full list! i am absolutely stoked & honoured to be producing this magic piece of Aussie music history.

Im very excited of what the future holds for both ‘Modern Murder’ & ‘Machine Men Studio’s’, as its a very exciting time to be involved in music, and im very happy to be doing & continue doing my part.
